  If you are looking for a safari with more than just game drives and ticking off the big 5 this is the place for you. An incredible example of how a community can work together to restore and conserve wild spaces. Incredible camp with exceptional service and the opportunity to learn how we can live in harmony with our space and share it with the wildlife to benefit all.

  Sarara was the final stop on our incredible journey to Africa, and we wanted to visit the Reteti Elephant Orphanage.. We had booked nearly 3-weeks of travel, so by the time we arrived, we were exhausted. We had a beautiful experience there and will never forget it. We were greeted at the airstrip by our guide, Pius, and little did we know, he was an amazing person and soul. We were immediately greeted by our hotel managers, Michael and Ann, and other amazing staff, and knew we were in for a special treat. The employees at Sarara (wish we could remember all the names) were outgoing, friendly, and provided outstanding service... and always with a HUGE smile! A wonderfully warm group of people. They were of the Samburu tribe and villages. We were so tired, and enough game drives to last a lifetime. Instead, our guide took us for a visit to his village. He shared stories about the Samburu, about life as a warrior of the tribe, about life in the village, and about their religion. The Samburu people have little money, little belongings, and a beautiful spirit. We were invited into someone’s home who gave us a tour of the incredibly modest surroundings, and they were so proud and shook our hands so grateful that we had visited. We were able to experience more of the Samburu people as the camp brought in women who made beaded jewelry, as well as a man and his son who did medal work. Both of us were gifted with exquisite beaded and metal bracelets. Lodging was outstanding; you’re literally in a tent, but what a 5-star tent it was (had all the amenities) that is built into the mountain. Staff was perfect. Food was amazing. Most of our dining was communal, either outside under the trees or in a lovely lodge, with other guests. It was a delight talking to folks from all over the world and making wonderful connections. Spending time with these beautiful people was truly special. This is also where the Reteti Elephant Orphanage is housed, and we had the pleasure to visit. They care for orphaned baby elephants, who have been injured, or whose parents had either abandoned them or died. It’s primarily elephants, but they have started caring for other orphans, and had giraffe and ostrich babies. This conservancy does incredible work, and works with the Samburu people to insure the babies are always cared for. The agency gives money to the community, as the people provide the milk for feeding. We would return in a heartbeat! The wildlife was spectacular, and the people along the way, even better!

  You cannot beat the beauy of nature and the hospitality of sarara camp. Outstanding service, delicious food, majestic views, an absolutely stunning pool. The most welcoming and beautiful staff & delicious meals. You feel at home without a doubt.

  We had the most incredible time staying at Sarara Camp with our family. The food is delicious and we loved meeting fellow guests at the family dinners. Every step throughout the camp has you immersed in nature and guaranteed to run into wildlife like giraffes and zebras. We went on plenty of game drives and also had the incredible opportunity to learn about all their work at the Foundation. The staff were also amazing with our toddler too! WE WILL BE BACK!!!!

  Sarara camp is amazing! The main lodge is a beautifully crafted, open air space with comfortable couches and seating to rest and take in the magnificent view. It also serves as a communal dinning room, where you are served amazing meals, including wine and other alcohol/drinks, and get to meet travelers from all over the world. Sarara will also be happy to create a private table on the grounds in the evening for a romantic ambiance. The accommodation is comfortable and all the soaps, shampoos, body scrubs, are made locally. Sarara supports many local programs, such as Retiti elephant sanctuary, local Montessori schools, milk to mamas program, and the mobile women and children’s clinic. They have 2 watering holes just below the lodge, so you can sit and watch as herds of elephants and giraffes wander in and out for the day. This is truly a special place that is centered around the local Samburu people and I could not recommend it more.
