Rachel Mwaka serves delicious food and the central Mombasa location's unbeatable. But rooms can feel dirty, AC's hit or miss, and breakfast area seemed filthy to more than one guest.

    I had a very very bad experience at this hotel last Month. We checked in from the airport around 9:30p.m. we had not eaten and were told the restaurant will be closing in the next 30 minutes. Rushing to my room, the door lock was spoilt and the alarm couldn't stop ringing. My room had small cockroaches and the bathroom was very dirty. I only slept for a few hours counting the hours I'll leave that hotel. It was a very bad experience.

    Nice, very conveniently located rooms, surrounding a well kept square raised 6 meters above street level. Surprisingly little noise. The room had a fridge, but we were missing other kitchen facilities such as a gas burner or at least cutlery and plates. We also missed a table and chairs. The room was for 6 people, but had only one chair. There is however plenty of sheltered seating outdoors.

    I have actually stayed here a couple of times. Really can not complain about the central location really helps you feel engrossed in the city. However, the hotel is not great. Rooms feel dirty at times, air conditioning can be hit or miss, the food area for breakfast seemed filthy, and taking a shower can be a worrying experience (exposed wiring and loads of mosquitos). It is what it is, if your priority is to see Mombasa then it can work. If you actually want to enjoy and spend time in the accommodation then perhaps look elsewhere.
