  Intimate setting focusing on authentic bush experiences. Likely to see lions, leopards, elephants, cheetahs in natural settings. Often recommended for travelers wanting quiet, personalized game drives. Great for: Wildlife lovers and photographers.

  Absolutely amazing. Joseph & all the guys at Porini Mara did a stellar job making us feel welcome and ensuring we got the best out of our game drives. A special Asante to Dixon & Wilson, our two guides whose welcoming nature and vast knowledge of the Mara seemed endless. The food was top notch, even for a fussy eater like me. Cannot complain other than I wish I had been there longer. Asante Sana!

  I would give Porini Mara camps 6/5 stars if I could. My group had a truly unforgettable experience with Porini and Gamewatchers. The tented camps were incredibly clean, we did not find a single bug or speck of dirt anywhere inside our tent. At the camp itself we observed elephants and antelopes graze peacefully among the bushes. Now for the game drives -- our guides Tinga and Caleb did an amazing job identifying every single animal we came across and were extremely knowledgeable about the the entire Mara ecosystem. We were lucky to see two(!!) leopards up close, a group of lion cubs playing during sunrise, and a herd of elephants teaching a young calf how to use its trunk. We only saw a handful of other safari vehicles at the Conservancy, which felt more respectful to the wildlife and environment than other parks which tend to be overcrowded with vehicles. Porini Mara sets a very high standard for experiencing African wildlife. We will be looking to stay at other Porini camps going forward.

  I enjoyed the experience quite a bit, I saw and heard many animals up close and met a lot of very nice local people. The Porini Mara camp was very comfortable, with lots of wildlife in and around the camp. I actually had an elephant feeding about 5m away while I was stargazing outside my tent. Got to watch 3 lionesses and 10 cubs eat a zebra, including hearing the bones crunched. OTOH, the food was mediocre and the game drives felt a little like being in a zoo. The animals are so used to the Land Rovers that we'd pull up to lions and elephants only a couple of meters away. I felt like the guides were good, not great. We did most of our sightings from behind the animals - not the best angle for photography. And the guides talked to each other in Swahili more than they did to us in English. I went in April, which is the slowest month of the year - expect big crowds on game sightings if you go in a busy season. I saw everything I hoped for in the offseason and still some sightings were still crowded with cars. I haven't been on any other safaris, so I have nothing to compare this trip with. However, i really enjoyed it and I'm very glad I did it. It felt like an 'entry level' safari, so if I do it again I think I'll look for something more adventurous.
