  Ilora: Unmatched Authenticity, We chose Ilora for our time in the Maasai Mara, and it was certainly a unique experience. This isn't your typical fenced camp; it's a small place, maybe only 10 luxury tents, nestled right in a small grove of trees with a river running through it, and zero fences or gates. If you want a truly authentic, fully exposed Mara experience, this is it. If not, you should probably book elsewhere! That open setup is a huge part of the atmosphere. Once it got dark, we needed a guide with a torch to escort us everywhere, mainly to look out for wild animals, especially the hippos. Hearing lions at night and those massive hippos munching grass right next to our tent was exhilarating and a bit wild. We felt safe inside the tents, but it absolutely cranks up the intensity of the experience. The tents themselves are incredibly luxurious. Seriously, we couldn't fault the design or the high-end feel of our space. The hot water was a bit temperamental sometimes, but that's a minor detail considering the location. The facilities are genuinely impressive for being so deep in the Mara. They have a pool, a small gym, a bar, a restaurant, and even a camera film development room—that’s an incredible set-up for a remote bush camp. The staff were also wonderfully friendly and welcoming. Now for the feedback: The food was a bit hit-and-miss. The authentic Kenyan dishes were delicious, and I'd recommend sticking to those. However, some of the other menu items didn't quite land The tents and the location absolutely live up to the price—we drove out of camp and spotted a lion within five minutes! . In summary: Ilora is an impressively set-up camp right in the heart of the Mara, offering an unparalleled level of wild authenticity.

  I recently had the pleasure of staying at Ilora Retreat Mara, and honestly, it was one of the most memorable safari experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, the team made me feel completely at home — warm smiles, genuine hospitality, and that peaceful Mara atmosphere that instantly makes you relax. The rooms were spacious, stylish, and very comfortable, with every detail thoughtfully designed. Waking up to the sounds of nature right outside my tent was incredible. Since the camp isn’t fenced, there’s this exciting sense of being truly out in the wild — you can sometimes hear animals nearby at night, which gives you that real safari thrill! One of my favorite moments was spending time on the deck for star gazing. The night sky over the Mara is breathtaking — thousands of stars twinkling above you, and absolute silence all around. As a photographer, I also really appreciated the photo booth — such a fun and creative touch to capture special memories from the stay. And let’s talk about the food — it was fantastic! Every meal felt like a treat, fresh and full of flavor, and served with so much care. Overall, Ilora Retreat Mara felt like a perfect blend of comfort, adventure, and genuine connection with nature. I left with a full heart, amazing photos, and memories I’ll cherish for a long time. I can’t wait to go back!

  We stayed at Ilora Retreats for three days, and it was truly one of the best experiences in Masai Mara! The property is located inside the park, offering a stay that’s incredibly close to nature. At night, you can even hear the sounds of hippos—but rest assured, the place is absolutely safe with 24/7 security. The entire team, from the receptionist to the chef, took excellent care of us. Our stay was completely customized to our preferences—meal timings, wake-up calls, and even bedtime routines were thoughtfully arranged. A special mention to the chef, who personally checked in during every meal and ensured most dishes were Indian-based, even the picnic breakfasts were delicious! The property is now under new management, and you can really see the difference. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful, personalized, and nature-filled stay in Masai Mara!

  My wife and I stayed at Ilora @ Masai Mara for 4 days, and it was truly an amazing experience. There are 4 things that really stood out for us: 1️⃣ Location: Ilora is located inside the Masai Mara park, which makes it so convenient to head out for game drives. You can even hear animals right from your tent — an experience we’ll never forget! 2️⃣ Amenities: The tents are luxurious and very comfortable. We loved the sky deck for stargazing — lying under a million stars in the middle of the Mara was magical. They also offer a guided walking trail through the bushes to a hippo pool, which was a unique experience. 3️⃣ Hospitality: The staff are incredibly warm and caring. I wasn’t feeling well when I landed in Kenya, and the team at Ilora took such good care of me — they even gave me special herbal concoctions and medicines to help me recover quickly. 4️⃣ Guides and Safari: The guides at Ilora are outstanding — professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate. Thanks to them, we saw the Big 5 not once, but three times! Every game drive was exciting and so well-organized. We left Ilora with wonderful memories and would recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic yet luxurious safari stay inside the Masai Mara.

  My husband and I stayed at Ilora Retreats for 4 days this week and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The property is strategically located right in the heart of the game park, so it is constantly surrounded by wildlife. We had heard that spotting leopards in the Mara could be difficult, but we were fortunate to see them 5 times in 4 days—each sighting within just 10 minutes of the resort. At night, we could hear hippos grunting and even lions roaring, thanks to the resort’s proximity to a nearby hippo pool. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. My husband was unwell for a couple of days, and the team went out of their way to ensure he felt comfortable. We did not carry a digital camera and immediately regretted it upon reaching the Mara. I happened to mention this to the resort manager, who kindly arranged a high-end camera on rental basis within a couple of hours. The owner of the resort, a photography enthusiast himself, even gave me a quick crash course on how to use it. The tents are spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed to make you feel one with nature. Despite their rustic appeal, they are hygienic and very well maintained. Even in terms of food they are very inclusive and flexible. Being a vegetarian, I was sceptical of my options, but I got plenty and more. All in all, Ilora Retreats truly elevated our experience and has set the bar very high for a Masai Mara vacation!
