One of the most popular conference facilities in Machakos (Kenya's initial Capital City... ever knew that?), Kyaka (pronounced Chaka) gets busy on many a week day. The chubby cute general manager and all her staff are very friendly and can customise your stay. Food and service are great! Can do better with a bigger swimming pool and parking area.

First time at Kyaka Hotel. Stayed for nine nights in a Standard room. Very impressed with the staff - very professional, friendly and always ready to assist. They felt like family when I left. The facilities, pool and garden were spotless and meticulous. Like all hotels, your room allocation is mostly outside of your control. While my room had everything I needed and was clean and comfortable, the room was also facing a court yard and were next to the kitchen, though four floors up. Therefore it was not the most quiet environment and when I opened the window (I prefer fresh air and it was quite hot during the day), you had the noise of operations and the constant smell of whatever was on the menu :-) No fans or an AC were available so I had to make a choice between fresh air and staying awake or feeling the heat and trying to sleep. Alas. Overall a wonderful experience. Thanks to all of the staff - especially Elizabeth, Morris, Odeliah, Mweni, Samson, Vittoria, Nelson, Timothy, Kelvin and Alex and many more!

This is a hotel with a thriving conference business and it handles meetings and events very well. I was there for one. The people are friendly and super helpful. The food is good, even if there isn't a good variety from day to day. The rooms are comfortable but very noisy because of tiled floors without much insulation between the levels. The doors bang loudly too. You don't need air conditioning in this part of Kenya but the hotel doesn't have ceiling fans or even portable fans available on request. Mosquitoes make it unwise to open the windows, so rooms can get stuffy. Overall, though, a solid choice for a meeting

The rooms at The Kayak Hotel fall short of what one would expect from a five-star establishment. While the property offers the basics for a night’s stay, several aspects make the overall experience underwhelming. On first impression, the rooms look somewhat run down, with poor finishing that detracts from a sense of luxury. The spaces themselves are relatively small, with limited closet storage. The absence of lifts means all guests must use stairs, which are uneven and feel awkward to climb — a challenge for those with mobility issues or carrying heavy luggage. The sleeping arrangements are the most positive feature. Beds are comfortable, with decent pillows and linens, allowing for good rest despite the shortcomings elsewhere. Bathrooms, however, are a major drawback. They are poorly finished and designed without shower barriers, so the entire bathroom — including the toilet area — becomes wet after showering. This significantly reduces comfort and practicality. Room amenities are minimal. Guests will find only a basic coffee and tea station. There is no minibar, no in-room safe, and televisions are not smart-enabled. Closet space is very small, limiting storage options. Housekeeping does provide daily cleaning, which helps maintain a level of order, but there are no personalized touches such as turndown service, welcome notes, or small extras one expects from a premium hotel. Overall, the rooms at The Kayak Hotel provide the essentials but lack the quality, finishing, and amenities expected of a top-rated property. While the beds are comfortable, the limited amenities, poor bathroom design, lack of lifts, and dated feel leave the impression of a mid-range facility rather than a five-star hotel. Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

The meals are consistently delicious, with a level of quality that rivals top-tier restaurants. High-speed internet is available in every corner, making work or streaming effortless. Security is vigilant and well-trained, creating a safe and comfortable environment throughout the property. A truly seamless stay that blends hospitality, convenience, and peace of mind.
