Julia's River Camp
Ranked in Best Safari Lodges in Masai Mara
About
Unfussy resort within a nature reserve offering simple permanent tents & game drives.
Wake up to hippos and buffalos by the Talek River, hear lions roar at night, and go on game drives that skip the stereotypical routes. The tents are authentic with complete basic amenities, though you might only get three drives instead of the four you paid for.

Had a great experience at Julia's river camp, food was great and plentiful. Wildlife is always turning up. The drives were amazing, the guide doesn't follow your stereotypical routes. There were times we were alone with these amazing animals! 100% recommend.

+ : Exceptional staff (kind, attentive, always ready to help). We felt truly welcomed and cared for. Well-located lodge, comfortable rooms, stunning view. An unforgettable experience. Special thanks to Jackson, Kevin, and Sandra. - : Hard beds, no electrical outlets in the room.

Excellent experience. Simple Authentic safari tent with complete basic amenities. 3course meals were good. Friendly and professional staffs. Most importantly beside talek river. We saw hippos buffalos every morning and evening. Heard lion’s roar, hyena’s laughing at night. Awesome!

I would not recommend this lodge. They charge extremely high prices but deliver only part of what they promise, and with poor quality. Most disappointing was being sold four game drives, each costing a fortune, but actually receiving only three, which is unacceptable. The food was also very poor. Of course, one doesn’t expect fine dining in the middle of the savannah, but it is obvious they charge a lot while cutting corners on service. We also filed a formal complaint about the missing game drive, but received no reply. It seems that once you leave, you are no longer their concern.

Mostly pleasant (especially the staff), but be aware of a couple of things. + Staff + Animals to see + Two options for main course (including a vegetarian option) + Tents Points of improvement: — You don’t get the Game Drives you pay for. Their website states: “Game Package: Includes two daily Game Drives”. They put 2 packages on our two nights stay, meaning 4 drives total, but we only got 3 drives. They should inform better or not put game packages on the day of arrival without informing properly that you don’t get 2 drives a day if you don’t miraculously arrive before 6 AM on the day of arrival to be in time for that drive. At any other place in the world we’ve done this, you do one in the afternoon on the day of arrival and one in the morning before departure — but apparently not at Julia’s where you pay for two and get one. Inform better so that guests can book accordingly instead of feeling cheated or give a single drive as a purchase option. — They left us at the airstrip with only a wooden bench 2 hours before the flight. Luckily it was just hot not pouring rain. Other hotels came at more normal times before a flight without security or passport. Maybe recommend an arrival time to your guests if you can’t do the transfer in a more reasonable fashion? — Consider having one Kenyan dish as one of the dinner options because it is difficult to make Western dishes without access to the right ingredients. All in all we would recommend staying here but you should keep in mind the above or the management at Julia’s should consider doing these improvements.
