  Lichthaus is one of those places where you immediately realise the usual rules don’t really apply. It’s equal parts cool and carefree, and very comfortable doing its own thing. We went on the first day of the year, which felt fitting, because it came with a couple of firsts for us too. For the first time ever, we had to pay for dinner when making the reservation (KES 22,000), with no refunds or credits if you don’t use it all. Slightly unusual, but it works here. The space isn’t just a restaurant—it overlooks the creek and also includes a café and a small gift shop, so there are plenty of ways to make use of it. The other first was much more fun: jumping straight from our reserved area into the water and swimming back. My daughter jumped in the water at least 20 times! The tide was stronger than expected, but there are stairs if you’d rather not go full send. The food is colourful, simple and well done - skewers cooked over coals, full of flavour, with colourful salads alongside. Drinks were made exactly as ordered, which always earns points. All ordered at the bar and then you wait for your name to be called out. This is really a sundowner spot. We arrived around 1pm with kids and the team was still setting up after closing at 6am the night before. By the time we left at about 3:30pm, it was getting busy and a bit cramped, with a mostly younger crowd rolling in. Relaxed, unconventional, and not trying too hard. Definitely worth visiting!

  What a great experience! Cool atmosphere on the edge of Mida Creek. The food is simple but very well done and the cocktails were great. We went early evening and kinda saw a sunset (it was a bit overcast) but had a great evening. It is very crowded and hectic, so be prepared. We booked a 'net' over the creek, but I think a table would have been better (eating and drinking while sitting on a net strung across two poles is tricky!)

  It's a trick! We paid 22k in deposit (that you won't get back) for a 230pm spot for 4 people. Had to bring 20 bottles of drinks in order to spend all of it. Ridiculous. The bar staff/cashier put their fingers in everything so if I don't get sick now I'll never get sick. Garlic beef was good, pork not so much, fish was bland.

  Such a cool place! We went twice during our 3 days in watamu. Fantastic views, chill vibe, great cocktails, friendly bar staff. There is a short food menu but it was all very tasty hot off the suspended grills.

  Spending the day at this spot was pure paradise. I spent hours stretched out on a net suspended over the water, with the ocean just beneath me and the breeze brushing over my skin — it honestly felt like time stopped. If you’re looking for a place to disconnect from the noise and just be, this is it. The view alone is enough to keep you there all day. With nothing but clear blue sea in front of you, the sound of the waves, and the warm sun above, it was the perfect escape. I didn’t even need much — just good vibes, the ocean, and a comfy spot to sink into. The team at the venue was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and always nearby if you needed something — but never overbearing. They let you enjoy the space at your own pace, which made the experience feel even more personal and peaceful. I ordered some drinks and snacks throughout the day, and everything was fresh, chilled, and well-prepared. The menu wasn’t overcomplicated, just good food done right — which is exactly what you want when you’re spending the day in swimwear, lounging above the sea.
