The dolphin search is the morning's high point. Spinner dolphins are resident in these waters in significant numbers, and the boats know their patterns. Most departures encounter them; on good days the dolphins bow-ride alongside the boat for sustained periods, close enough to photograph without a telephoto lens. Lunch is on Wasini Island — a small coral island with no cars and a handful of families — at a restaurant where the fish and seafood is cooked over charcoal and served with coconut rice and fresh fruit. The pace of the island in the afternoon, with dhows at anchor and the tide moving through the mangroves, is part of what people remember.
