About This Experience

This boat experience will help you immerse yourself in the local culture, the Diani community and their unique hospitality. The warmth of the local people as they guide you through the waters, explain to you about the fishing, and then to the sand bank. The glass boat offers you a nice view of the Diani marine life. Our experienced captain/ Boat operator putting up a show. The captain will throw a piece of bread or food into the sea and then dive beneath the glass-bottomed boat and attract special fish species that are not allowed to be fished courtesy of a local agreement by all fishermen and boat operators. Then the fish will be attracted to the glass boat creating a spectacular show. The boat has an upper compartment that visitors can safely climb and have very spectacular views and photos. Once the boat has docked at the sand bank, the guests will party for 45 minutes or lazily bank in the sand.

Detailed Description

The Indian Ocean off Diani Beach holds an underwater world that most visitors only glimpse through snorkelling masks — but a glass-bottom boat with a captain who knows how to put on a show changes the access equation entirely. Transfers and Tours runs this 2-hour experience from Bidbadu public beach for KES 3,870, making it the most accessible marine encounter on the coast. You meet your guide at Bidbadu beach — look for the Kaaribu Experiences cap — or arrange hotel pickup if you'd prefer not to navigate the beach access roads yourself. The boat is a locally built wooden vessel with a glass panel set into the hull, clean and well-maintained, that gives you a direct window into the reef ecosystem below without getting wet. You'll head out from the beach into the shallow, protected waters inside the coral reef that lines Diani's coastline, the kind of calm turquoise water that still surprises you even when you've been here a few days. The captain's show is the centrepiece of the experience and it's worth understanding what makes it work. The local fishermen and boat operators around Diani have an informal agreement to protect certain fish species — they don't net them, don't spear them, and over time these fish have learned to associate boats with food rather than danger. When the captain dives beneath the glass and throws bread into the water, the effect is immediate: the fish rise in dense schools directly against the hull, creating a colour-saturated display that presses right up to the glass. Parrotfish, wrasse, surgeonfish, triggerfish — species that you'd normally see only at depth, or not at all. The upper deck of the boat provides elevated views over the reef and back toward the Diani shoreline, the white sand beach backed by tall casuarina trees and the green coastal forest. The sandbank stop adds 45 minutes of beach time on a shallow exposed reef, knee-deep water in every direction, the kind of place that makes the word 'remote' feel accurate even though it's 20 minutes from your hotel. With only 6 reviews this operator is newer to the platform, but the experience format is well-established on this coast. It's ideal for families with young children (no snorkelling or swimming required), non-swimmers who still want to see the reef, and anyone on a tight Diani budget who wants the marine experience without the full diving price tag. Go in the morning when the water is calmest and the light strongest through the glass.
