You'll eat all three meals with volunteers and conservation staff, which is half the fun, and the food is cooked on-site and actually amazing. The lodge lends snorkeling equipment for the creek five minutes away, and Betty and Bright are the best.

We stayed at A Rocha for three nights. The volunteers and staff were nice and friendly. The full board is a great option because the food is amazing for every meal (cooked on site). Plus, everyone eats together, which is a great time to socialize with the people who work there. Colin taught us a lot about birds during the bird ringing. It was also amazing to see all of the students who came to learn from him. You are also just steps from the beach and a few kilometers from town.

A totally charming place. You are welcomed by conservation staff and volunteers with whom you share breakfast, lunch (optional) and dinner, alongside the other guests. A five-minute boda-boda from a gorgeous creek where you can go snorkelling (the lodge lends equipment). And a ten-minute drive to some of Watamu’s more well-known beaches. The food is lovely and the rooms are simple and cute - there seem to be about half a dozen. If you’re sensitive to light and sound when you sleep, come prepared because the curtains let in a good amount of light and the waves sound like they’re right outside your room.

A small piece of paradise right on the beach. The rooms are beautiful, food delicious and the staff and volunteers incredibly kind. The price includes full board, which is a fair deal given the great location and atmosphere. I will come back! :)

What an amazing place! Betty and Bright are the best. Good food and have private beach. If you are also birdwatcher, this is the place. Highly recommend!

The team at A Rocha made our experience so incredible. I led an academic trip to Watamu with a group of students interested in studying Marine Science and Ecology in coastal Kenya. We stayed the whole time at A Rocha, as well as participated in various conservation and research projects active at the time. I don't believe there could have existed a better space to host and support this trip. The grounds of A Rocha are accessible, inviting and provide many areas for rest, exploration and research. The food that was cooked there daily was delicious. The staff, along with the practicing researchers, were all incredibly welcoming, kind and curious. And overall, the feeling of being there felt like being welcomed home. I want to give a personal shout-out to Betty who helped us plan our trip, as well as coordinated with us every day we were there. Colin is also a passionate educator, and all of the students walked away with new learnings and questions every day. I highly recommend A Rocha, and thank them deeply for all they helped us accomplish on this trip.
